Do You Offer Free Consultations?

Absolutely. We require consultations for all new clients. Consultations are a great way to get everything out in the open so that we can crate a mutual and educated plan for your hair removal treatments.

We take a very thorough medical history to rule out any unusual growth patterns and possible causes of excessive hair. We will discuss all aspects of hair growth and what I can do to treat your specific needs. You will be able to discuss questions or concerns you may have.  Both of these are vital in providing the most comprehensive (and successful) treatment possible.

We will give you a quote on pricing and answer all questions you have about the procedure. Consultations are always free and you are never obligated to receive treatment.

Corlase Electrolysis & Laser schedules consultations for 30 minutes.  Client forms are available for you to print out and complete beforehand if you choose.  You also have the option of arriving 15 minutes prior to your appointment to complete the forms at our facility.

All consultation require a 24-hour notice for any cancellations.  Any late or no-shows will result in a $45 fee for the next scheduled one.

Sometimes our clients and practitioner may feel comfortable with a treatment plan and wish to begin right away.  If time allows, we can start with a complimentary electrolysis mini session.  Often this is a good option for those who are comfortable with moving forward but still curious or nervous about treatment.

Where Can Hair Be Removed From?

Hair can safely be removed from almost any part of the body, excluding inside mucus membranes. We regularly treat all areas of the body and face.

How Do I Prepare for Treatment?

For Laser – Please shave the area the day of treatment.  For areas you cannot reach, we can readily facilitate the need to ensure the effectiveness of your treatment.  There will be a fee for large areas.

For Electrolysis – Please allow the hair to surface. We use surgical eyewear so we can see the smallest hair but it still needs to be surfaced.

Which Is Better Electrolysis Or Laser?

One is not better than the other rather one method is better for a certain need.  If you have excessive dark hair in any given area big or small and your skin isn’t too dark, the laser is a quicker better bet for you. It will not work on white, red or blond hair.

If your hair is light or sparse or your skin is quite dark, electrolysis is better.

What if I Want to Simply Reduce the Amount of Hair on My Body?
Particularly relevant to men, hair reduction from just two or three treatments provides the solution to just reducing the amount of hair.

Questions About Electrolysis

What Is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis was first practiced professionally in 1875 and has since evolved into a highly sophisticated science. Electrolysis is a general term used to describe the three modalities (methods) of permanent hair removal including thermolysis, galvanic and the blend.

  • Thermolysis: this method uses an alternating current to cause a physical destruction of heat to destroy the hair follicle. It is fast and is fine for finer hairs.
  • Galvanic: this uses direct current to create a chemical change in the follicle to disable the follicle from producing hair. It is much slower than thermolysis but more effective is treating course hairs.
  • Blend: this uses the science of both the above mentioned to quickly and effectively stunt hair follicles. All methods are only as good as the Electrologist implementing them. I have been thoroughly trained in all modalities and will use what is best for your individual needs.

Unlike most clinics across the country, we are experts in and use all modalities. This is why our results are so much better and quicker.

What Happens During an Electrolysis Treatment?

The Electrologist slips a fine wire filament into the hair follicle, a natural opening in the skin (this does not hurt). A mild, minute amount of current is then applied which destroys the papilla and surrounding germinative cells. When the root has been treated effectively, the hair will release and can be gently slid from the follicle. Once the hair root has been eliminated, the hair cannot reproduce again.  “It sounds a little scary but I promise, it really awesome and amazing to see the hair quit growing.” – dana

Does Electrolysis Work on All Skin Types and Hair Color?

Absolutely, electrolysis will work on blonde and red hair as well as dark and skin color or tan does not affect electrolysis treatment. We will not treat sun burned skin though.

Is Electrolysis Painful?

It doesn’t have to be. Each individual has a different tolerance level. Since I have had electrolysis, I am considerate and will work within your boundaries. There is some warm sensation, but it should be comfortably tolerable. Stimulates such as caffeine and sugar should be avoided before treatment. There are also topicals that can be used to desensitize the skin though hardly any of our clients need them.  Our equipment and technique is really wonderful and clients who have been elsewhere always notice the comfort we offer.

How Long Does Electrolysis Take?

There are many factors involved, each patient will be different. While electrolysis is indeed permanent, it is not instant, electrolysis is a series of treatments. Approximately three months are required before noticeable results are obtained. This is due to the natural shedding and replacing of the hair. Other variables involved includes Amount of Hair Texture Tolerance Previous methods of hair removal. It is very important that appointments be kept regularly in order to effectively maintain the previously cleared area.  It takes 12-18 months to get through all of the cycles appropriately.  Appointment length lasts anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours.  Most clients are 15-30 minutes.

Questions About Laser Hair Removal

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

The modern technology of the Award Winning Candela GentleLAST Plus Alexandrite Laser allows us to dramatically reduce excessive dark hair from anywhere on the face and body quickly, safely and permanently.  This laser has the highest rating by the FDA for permanent hair reduction.  Only Candela lasers feature the Dynamic Cooling Device (DCDTOM) to maximize your safety and comfort.

When the laser is pulsed on the skin surface, the melanin (darkness) of the hair pulls the light energy in, converts that energy to heat and destroys the hair root.  The light is absorbed by the melanin along the hair follicle and the hair shaft.  The laser pulses just long enough to destroy the pigment, that’s less than a second, disabling multiple hair follicles in a single application.  This leads to either the elimination of that hair or significant obstruction of the hair growth depending on the stage of the hair.  Because the laser is only emitted for a fraction of a second, it is able to affect the melanin before damaging the surrounding skin, which is protected by the patented cooling technology.

Laser treatments last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the area.

What to Expect with Laser?

Our hair is constantly chaining from a number of factors that make us who we are.  It is this diversity that makes proper hair removal a process.  As our body reacts to different situations such as hormones, medications, weight and even our genes, our hair growth pattern changes and may activate dormant hair follicles.

The complex nature of hair growth controls the number of sessions required to reach your personal preference of hair removal. Generally, each session can result in a 10-25% reduction in hair growth. We schedule treatment every 4-10 weeks depending on the area. Each treatment can result in lighter, finer hair as you work with us to complete permanent results. Corlase Electrolysis & Laser’s goal is to see this process through to ensure complete satisfaction.

How Long Before I See Results?

Immediately.  The treated follicles have been destroyed and will no longer return, leaving the hairs to fall out naturally between 10-14 days after treatment.  Many people will shave the hairs as they begin to surface.  You don’t have to do anything, the will fall out either way.

Who Does Laser Work For?

The wavelength of the laser emitted for hair removal is optimal for darker hair on the lighter skin (up to a latte color).  Skin with darker pigment can be difficult for the light to travel through and effectively rach the hair shaft.  We do not feel the lasers on the market designed for dark skin work that well and therefore we do not use them.

What about tanned skin? There is no laser designed for tanned skin. I with there was. I would certainly own one.  Many clinics use Yag lasers which are designed for dark skin (though not that effective) on the tanned skin so that they won’t burn the skin.  The results are simply not up to our standards.

How Effective is Laser For Hair Removal?

Clinical studies show that with the right laser platform coupled with a learned practitioner, permanent reduction of roughly 85-99% can be achieved.  Here atCorlase Electrolysis & Laser, we have our end covered with the equipment and Licensed Staff to accomplish this and we do every day.  THE MAJORITY OF CENTERS IN NC ARE OPERATING WITHOUT LICENSED STAFF.  DO NOT BE FOOLED BY A PRETTY OFFICE.  ANYONE CAN RUN A LASER IN A DOCTORS OFFICE WITHOUT BEING A LICENSED LASER HAIR PRACTITIONER.  DANA IS LICENSED AS A LASER HAIR PRACTITIONER AND ELECTROLOGIST FOR ALMOST 3 DECADES.

About My Laser of Choice

With many lasers on the market, few are permitted by the FDA to claim capable of achieving permanent reduction of hair, the highest rating. I have owned the two most sophisticated lasers, the LightSeer Diode Laser and The GentleLASE Plus. I feel the Candela GentleLASE Plus Alexandrite delivers the best reduction of hair permanently. Sometimes laser just won’t work on your needs.  Also, laser will only do so much then you may need to touch up with electrolysis.  No other center gives you this many options for permanent results in hair removal. This assures you get the very best treatment for your specific needs.

The GentleLASE System, a revolutionary long-pulse high energy alexandrite laser, emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed and transformed into heat energy. This disables hair follicles that are actively producing hair (anagen stage). At any time, some hair follicles are dormant (telogen). The laser cannot treat hair in the dormant stage. Since the follicles are producing hair at different times, numerous treatments will be necessary. The surrounding skin is unaffected due to a Dynamic Cooling Device where cryogen is sprayed onto the skin cooling the upper layers and providing patients with increased comfort, this is patented to the GentleLASE system. The GentleLASE System also uses distance gauges. These gauges are changed with each patient and sterilized, not merely wiped off. This assures the utmost prevention of the spread of disease from one patient to the next. Not many lasers have this feature.

Do Not Be Fooled.
There are a multiple of non-medical, non-laser devices on the market that is not potent, and incapable of achieving permanent hair reduction. The cost of these devices are much less than proven counterparts, and so they are often purchased by spas or beauty salons where sometimes they are marketed “laser hair removal”. This is inaccurate since these are not true lasers. And second, the low power technologies will not give an active permanent reduction.  BEWARE OF DISCOUNT CENTERS OR CHEAP ADVERTISING.  A large portion of our clients have fallen prey to those ads and simply lost money or did not get the job done well enough.  Save money on something less important than the safety of yourself and your one and only skin.
