I am trained to detect and understand underlying causes of hair growth that can influence your hair removal progress, and develop a treatment schedule that will work for you. When hormonal imbalances are detected, which cause some types of hair growth or when unusual dermatology conditions are observed, I can inform you and lead you in the right direction for help.

• Where Can Hair be Removed from?
Hair can safely be removed from almost any part of the body, excluding inside mucus membranes.
• What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis was first practiced professionally in 1875 and has since evolved into a highly sophisticated science. Electrolysis is a general term used to describe the three modalities (methods) of permanent hair removal including thermolysis, galvanic and the blend.
- Thermolysis: this method uses an alternating current to cause a physical destruction of heat to destroy the hair follicle. It is fast and is fine for finer hairs.
- Galvanic: this uses direct current to create a chemical change in the follicle to disable the follicle from producing hair. It is much slower than thermolysis but more effective is treating course hairs.
- Blend: this uses the science of both the above mentioned to quickly and effectively stunt hair follicles. All methods are only as good as the Electrologist implementing them. I have been thoroughly trained in all modalities and will use what is best for your individual needs.
• What Happens During an Electrolysis Treatment?
The Electrologist slips a fine wire filament into the hair follicle, a natural opening in the skin. A mild, minute amount of current is then applied which destroys the papilla and surrounding germinativecells. When the root has been treated effectively, the hair will release and can be gently slid from the follicle. Once the hair root has been eliminated, the hair will not reproduce again.
• Does Electrolysis Work on all Skin Types and Hair Color?
Absolutely, electrolysis will work on blonde and red hair as well as dark and skin color or tan does not affect electrolysis treatment.
• Is Electrolysis Painful?
Each individual has a different tolerance level. Since I have had electrolysis I am considerate and will work within your boundaries. There is some warm sensation, but it should be comfortably tolerable. Stimulates such as caffeine should be avoided before treatment. There are also topicals that can be used to desensitize the skin.
• How Long Does Electrolysis Take?
There are many factors involved, each patient will be different. While electrolysis is indeed permanent, it is not instant, electrolysis is a series of treatments. Approximately three months are required before noticeable results are obtained. This is due to the natural shedding and replacing of the hair. Other variables involved include: Amount of Hair Texture Tolerance Previous methods of hair removal It is very important that appointments be kept regularly in order to effectively maintain the previously cleared area.
• About my Laser of Choice
With 13 lasers on the market, only 5 are permitted by the FDA to claim capable of achieving permanent reduction of hair, the highest rating. I have owned the two most popular lasers, the LightSeer Diode Laser and The GentleLASE Plus. I feel the Candela GentleLASE Plus Alexandrite delivers the best reduction of hair permanently. No other center gives you this many options for permanent results in hair removal. This assures you get the very best treatment for your specific needs.
The GentleLASE System, a revolutionary long-pulse high energy alexandrite laser, emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed and transformed into heat energy. This disables hair follicles that are actively producing hair (anagen stage). At any time, some hair follicles are dormant (telogen). The laser cannot treat hair in the dormant stage. Since the follicles are producing hair at different times, numerous treatments will be necessary. The surrounding skin is unaffected due to a Dynamic Cooling Device where cryogen is sprayed onto the skin cooling the upper layers and providing patients with increased comfort, this is patented to the GentleLASE system. The GentleLASE System also uses distance gauges. These gauges are changed with each patient and sterilized, not merely wiped off. This assures the utmost prevention of spread of disease from one patient to the next. Not many lasers have this feature.
There are a multiple of non-medical, non-laser devices on the market that are not potent, and incapable of achieving permanent hair reduction. The cost of these devices are much less than proven counterparts, and so they are often purchased by spas or beauty salons where sometimes they are marketed "laser hair removal". This is inaccurate since these are not true lasers. And second, the low power technologies will not active permanent reduction.

• Am I a Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
Not everyone is a candidate for laser hair removal. Some facilities will mislead you into treatment for financial gain. You must have pigment in your hair. This means hair that is brown or darker will respond to the laser energy. Blonde or Red hair simply does not respond well to laser.
• How Long Does Laser Treatment Take?
The GentleLASE has numerous spot sizes going up to one of the largest on the market, an 18mm ( about the size of a quarter). Treatment can last anywhere from 15 seconds for upper lip to 40 minutes for the back. This laser is very fast.
• Are there Adverse Reactions to Treatment?
Hyper (darkening) or Hypo (lightening) Pigmenting or Purpura (reddening) can occur. These reactions are common in many centers where the staff is not trained appropriately.
• Does Diet Affect Treatment?
Not generally. However, large amounts beta carotene found in carrots, squash and some other vegetables does interfere with treatment due to absorption in the skin. This interferes with the laser penetrating to the follicle and causes more absorption in the skin. It is advised to avoid supplements with beta-carotene for 4 weeks prior to treatment.
• Do you Treat Children?
Children can be treated, however, their cooperation is needed and it must be their decision to have treatments done. I am happy to educate children on safe temporary methods that will not cause more hair.
• How Often are Treatments?
Treatments begin with about 4-8 weeks between sessions. After your initial 3 to 4 treatments you will generally see a large reduction of hair and can come as you see needed if needed. It is important to retreat area as hair grows in that you do not want, as hair follicles have an amazing regenerating ability and need to be treated in their early growth stages.
• Is Laser Treatment Painful?
Pain is relevant to each person. In order to acquire permanent results, there is going to be some mild to moderate discomfort. The FDA does NOT allow laser practitioners to say "painless" when describing treatment. Be careful of such claims from companies. The level of discomfort varies with each person. However, I do everything to make your treatments as comfortable as possible from offering topicals, experienced technique, aroma therapy and simple consideration.
• What can I do to prepare for Treatment of Laser or Electrolysis?
The hairs to be treated need to be surfaced, not long, just above the skin. If possible, the area should be free of make-up and lotions. Drink 4-6 glasses of water for 2-3 days before your appointment. Clipping or shaving the hair is the best temporary method of hair removal. If the area to be treated is sunburned neither electrolysis nor laser will be given and laser will not be done on tan skin. Avoid stimulants like caffeine.
• What Can I Expect After Laser or Electrolysis?
Healing after treatment is generally quite rapid. Immediately after treatment the area may be slightly pink or swollen. This will last only 10-30 minutes. I give extra attention to aftercare and have very minimal to no "healing" time. I see many clients on there lunch hours. Avoid the sun for 48 hours, or be sure to wear sun block. You may continue to shave the area treated, however, all waxing and tweezing should seize.
• Which is Better Electrolysis or Laser?
One is not "better" than the other. It depends on the hair and quantity of hair. Electrolysis is great for light or sparse hair. Laser is best for excessive dark hair.
• What are Safe Temporary Methods of Hair Removal?
Shaving, contrary to popular belief, does not make you have more hair. If that were true their would be no bald men in America. It does "blunt" the hair off making it feel more stubbly. It is safe in the way that it will not cause you to have more hair. Depilatories: this is a cream that is applied for a length of time then wiped off taking the unwanted hair with it (like Nair). This will not cause more hair to grow either. It takes the hair off just below the skin surface so it can be irritating to some skin types. Plucking, Tweezing & Waxing strengthens the hair root. Over time the hair will become thicker and tougher. We do not recommend this method of temporary removal for face or areas where ingrown hairs are probable (bikini lines).
